LETTER
FROM THE PUBLISHER

Dear Readers,
Welcome to April’s issue!
Like most of you—I would assume—I love spring;
the rebirth of so many living things is probably the force
behind this excitement. Being an East-Coaster originally,
I still think of “April showers” even here in
the desert. There is a renewal in rain—actually in water
for that matter. Interestingly, I was given a book a couple
of weeks ago by someone I barely knew but with whom I had
a strong connection. She took this book off the shelf and
said, “You need to read this. It is yours.” The
book was the New York Times Best Seller “The Hidden
Messages in Water” by Masaru Emoto. I had never heard
of this book, and not many people these days give so freely.
I thought it was a small enough book and felt compelled to
read it immediately as a way to say thank you for her generosity.
This woman, Mary, gave me a far greater gift than a book.
She gave me life answers. Universal questions I have been
struggling with for many years were answered in this little
book—and it has beautiful pictures!
These times we live in
are difficult for so many people, not just in Las Vegas in
the Real Estate business, but all over the country and all
over the world. This little book makes sense of things. and
helps with a road map of how to live life. It shows the incredible
power of water and positive thoughts, and the impact of negative
thoughts as well. I have read many books on this related subject
of the impact of thoughts but none come even close to this
little book. I wish to extend an invitation to all of you
to give yourself a gift; buy this book and forgo the triple
Vente Cinnamon Dolce Latte with sugar-free syrup. Please feel
free to let me know your thoughts on the book. Click
here to go directly to Amazon.com to get and enjoy
The Hidden Messages in Water.
This experience has also
led me to add a “Pick of the Month Read” on our
monthly publication. These will not be your typical Real Estate
books. They will not be your standard business motivational
books. But rather, inspiring books about life lessons and
exploration. Maybe what we need is to not associate “who
we are” with the success or lack of success of our business.
Is that truly who we are? Again, I invite you to take this
changing time in our lives to explore. Do you remember when
you explored last? It is fun. It is freeing. It is life-changing.
In this month’s issue
of E RealEstateExec we provide you with many terrific articles
on this fabulous business.
Amid reports of companies
going out of business and agents leaving the industry, there
are still plenty of Real Estate professionals who know how
to build and sustain lasting careers. This month’s National
article, “Surviving and Thriving in the Current Real
Estate Market” offers tips on how to adjust to challenges
in the Real Estate industry. Michelle Savage talks to two
industry experts about what they and their companies are doing
to ensure that they not only outlast the downturn, but that
they continue to appreciate high levels of success in any
market.
Our Feature article for
April is on Project Homeless Connect. This is an organization
that E RealEstateExec has been involved with in a supportive
role as well as through volunteering. The Project Homeless
Connect event is being held on April 10, and again in October,
and it seeks to help the homeless by providing a variety of
services. It’s a great opportunity to get involved with
the community, and the experience is not one you will forget,
nor is it what you might expect. It can be humbling to know
how little effort it takes to affect the life of another human
being in need of just a little bit of help. We invite you
to learn more about this event in Doug Shield’s article,
“Eradicating Homelessness, One Person at a Time.”
And consider volunteering to help out at the event in April
and in October. We’ll see you there!
Jessica Kincaid of Keller
Williams Realty is our Local Profile 1 for April. You may
find yourself exhausted when you read about all the things
she accomplishes and is involved with day in and day out,
or you just may find yourself inspired. Jessica is involved
with numerous organizations—including GLVAR, NVAR, and
WCR—and she also finds time to work with the community
by volunteering at a non-profit youth leadership organization,
as well as a hip-hop dance program for kids and adults. On
top of all this, she is a successful Real Estate agent with
a dedication to her clients and to keeping them informed;
she is also co-author of the company’s Web site, which
offers articles and blogs on wealth building and personal
development. Read all about Jessica in Cathie C. Hulen’s
article, “Mentoring Clients to Success.”
In Doug Shield’s
article “A New Twist on Shipping,” he discusses
how The UPS Store in Henderson is more than just mailboxes
and shipping services. Owner Dave McGovern and his son Matthew
have added services like printing and personalized mass mailing
to provide a one-stop shop for those who need to reach their
clients on a regular basis—as well as get the most bang
for their marketing buck. As the Local Profile 2 for April,
Dave and Matthew talk about their approach to business as
well as their dedication to serving their clients. As long-term
clients of The UPS Store in Henderson, we can honestly say
that Dave and Matt and the entire team there have consistently
exceeded our expectations. In a world where this is not currently
the norm, we are happy to once again feature a company that
takes pride in this fact.
This month’s Beyond
Green article discusses ways to save money while striving
toward sustainability. In “Sustainable Savings: How
to Pinch Pennies While Living Green,” Dale Rowse of
Viridian Group talks about cost-effective changes that can
be made at any stage of the game—whether you’re
building a new project from the ground up, renovating, or
simply making changes to your office or home. The earlier
in the process the effort toward sustainability is started,
the more money can be saved. But at every turn, there are
still cost-saving opportunities to be had.
Our new columnist for Urban
Update, Gary Fisher representing Streamline Tower and the
Downtown Coalition of Las Vegas, writes about the duality
of Las Vegas and the ways that this is being addressed when
it comes to downtown development. In “Movers and Shakers—Companies
That Are Economically Impacting Downtown Las Vegas,”
Gary talks with John Eisle, Sales Manager for juhl, Jordan
Weissen, manager of Triple George Grill and Sidebar, as well
as other downtown figureheads to discuss the changes and how
they will impact the climate of the downtown area.
We are thrilled to have
Deb Williams guest-writing our Lifestyle column for April.
Deb is a well-known writer in the motor sports industry, and
in her article, “Las Vegas Motor Speedway: The Diamond
in the Desert,” she discusses the recent changes to
LVMS and what they mean to participants and fans of racing.
Speedway Motorsports Inc. has done much to bring LVMS to a
level that shines as brightly as Las Vegas itself. Read more
about the upgrades to the track in Deb’s article, online
now.
As you know, we actively
seek to take the high road in our reporting. April’s
Legal Notes article addresses a highly sensitive issue and
not one that is particularly positive, but it is imperative
that it be discussed in order to provide awareness for our
readers and thus help you protect your clients.
The recent lending problems
have done more than just create a rise in foreclosures. They’ve
created a rise in scams against those who are renting. In
his article, “Foreclosure Scams—Renters Beware,”
John Benedict talks about some of the situations renters can
find themselves in unknowingly, because the properties they
are renting are being foreclosed upon. And while there currently
isn’t a law that protects renters from these situations,
there may be soon. In the meantime, there are precautions
to be taken.
We’d like to extend
a big “welcome back” to Brenda Calvin, who has
been in Dubai at the 8th World Congress for the Council on
Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. As a speaker at the conference,
she offered her expertise on selling luxury high-rises, and
in this month’s Vertical Update column she writes all
about her trip, as well as the current development of the
city of Dubai. In her article, “Dubai—City of
Dreams,” read about all the parallels between this desert
city and our own. Hear more about Brenda’s endeavors
in Dubai at the LVIA (Las Vegas International Association)
meeting the evening of April 22nd at the Sullivan Square Sales
Center. For more details contact Sandi Herrera of Viridian
Group at s.herrera@viridiangroup.com.
In April’s Design
Connection, Stephen Leon talks about the ASID Showcase House
known as “The Falls.” Located in the exclusive
community of The Ridges, it is the first ASID Showcase House
in Las Vegas. The home can be viewed as part of the Las Vegas
Parade of Homes which will showcase a total of 18 homes and
takes place from April 18 through May 4. A portion of the
proceeds from this event will benefit the local chapter of
Habitat for Humanity. Although we have reported on this event
in a couple of other articles, we felt that as the event draws
near that it was a good reminder. Please help us support this
event. To purchase tickets by PayPal or credit card, go to
www.asidcanv.org.
Thank
you for your loyalty to E RealEstateExec, we are so excited
to continue to bring our readership the quality of reporting
and articles that this industry deserves. As always, we’d
love to hear from you if you have any comments, suggestions,
and of course, praise. Enjoy your April!
